Review: White Nights — Fyodor Dostoevsky

Today I am sharing my experience reading the magnificent short novel of Fyodor Dostoevsky “The White Nights”.

It is actually a short novel full of self-deep conversations, hidden messages, a flow of saying that make you think, and ask yourself at each page, is it me who he is talking about? why is he describing me so specifically that I am afraid I will be all exposed in this?

At some point, I ‘ve got lost it wasn’t easy for me to start reading Dostoevsky’s works, it is quite challenging! but little by little I started to immerse inside it and understand the way and the style of his writing so I am enjoying it so far! I’ve met this piece of art as a copy translated in Arabic, I devoured it! So, I jumped into the English version, and I am devouring it also.

So, let’s get into it, step by step; It is representing a guy having its own journey mentally and physically to find himself, he is being trapped by so many thoughts, having so many inner conversations that won’t stop, until one he meets a partner, a listener that when he started letting out all what he was thinking he felt better; however better doesn’t not mean good thing always! don’t worry everyone no spoiling for this one ;).

The book is full of inner talking, analyzing, admiring, so at each line you drop on special quote that imprints on you one way or another, let’s start with this:

“But how could you live and have no story to tell?”

Your life is empty, you are sick of the daily routine you’ve created for yourself, you can’t get out of it no matter how hard you are trying, you’ve finally caught a glance of light you were walking, then running toward it thinking of you it was the sun, so you followed the light to get off the cave you’ve entered, unfortunately you found a lamp at the end of the row with hard closed path shutter on your way. Gladly you’ve realized finally that the cave is just in your head, your imagination when you let yourself out then you will find your light!

“I am a dreamer. I know so little of real life that I just can’t help re-living such moments as these in my dreams, for such moments are something I have very rarely experienced.”

I really do recommend this book, for overthinkers, introverts and self-talking people who are constantly in a conversation with their head. ENJOY :)!

I greatly appreciate your kind words and support for my responses, interactions, and passion for what I do. It fills me with joy and excitement knowing that you appreciate and enjoy what I write.
